Membership Type Qualified Member

Membership Number 173484

Renewal Date 28/10/2025

I have previously maintained a blog (One Pace Forward) covering hiking & travels, sharing my experiences and providing inspiration & information of British destinations (particularly Scotland & SE England) & details of overseas adventures, allowing an introduction to skills further developed for VisitBritain. I am also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
I have gained experience in the marketing, communication and product areas of travel/tourism sector from employment with VisitBritain and currently, VisitFlanders. I held three varied roles during my time at VB but left in September 2017 on good terms in order to spend a career break travelling Central & South America, then Nordic, Eastern & Balkan Europe by van, with a focus on hiking & nature destinations. I have previously been employed by Ramblers in their membership dept.
My experiences for DofE at school was a total of six expedition trips to various National Parks situated in the UK, however as an adult I have extensive lowland, hill & mountain walking experience across the UK, but now wish to formalise these into qualifications into further outdoor learning and experiences, to move into DofE volunteering/freelance work.
I have visited Mount Kenya in 2000 on a family holiday. Since this time I have regularly undertaken expeditions, either on a day walk basis or longer expeditions or overnight trips, including wild camping.
In 2014, I undertook an expedition to walk the Haute Route between Arolla & Zermatt, Switzerland including stays in mountain cabins at 2,800m.
I enjoy a range of additional activities, including football, cricket and rugby & individual interests including photography, music, reading, beer, snowboarding, skiing & other outdoor leisure pursuits, including trekking, cycling, kayaking.
