I am a school teacher with responsibility for the teaching and learning of Physics and I am our schools Duke of Edinburgh awards manager. I have also been involved in our school ski trips since 2001 and have lead the trips since 2004. I hold an ASCL award and renew this every 3 years.
I lead a team so that we can deliver all 3 levels of the DofE award. We do our expeditions in the White Peak, Dark Peak, The Black Mountains, The Brecon Beacons and we hope to use the Yorkshire Dales soon.
I achieved my HML award at the end of 2017 and will be consolidating some more for the MLS in the near future.

I am a very active person and since a young age I have been involved in outdoor pursuits; cubs, Scouts, Air Training Corps and school skiing to name but a few. Upon successful completion of my degree, and getting married, my connection with the mountains evolved, and I began to ski multiple times a year. I also gained my Alpine Ski Course Leader award. In my best winter ever, I managed to ski in every month of the season!
Through my twenty-year career as a secondary school teacher, I have lead 21 ski trips, all over the northern hemisphere, and become involved in a leadership capacity with the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards.
Progressing to the position DofE Centre Manager, within school, has given me the opportunity to participate in the HML and ML training courses, in order to help improve the quality of training for our students.
Some of the training that the staff and I have completed for the DofE awards has resulted in us participating in charity challenges, with personal achievements and milestones reached along the way. We recently represented the school on the DofE Diamond Challenge, spending three days on Skye, a series of Munro’s and the Inaccessible Pinnacle, followed by the national 3 peaks. A wonderful experience!
I hope to gain further awards, and broaden my experience, to ensure that our students are safe, and that staff and students get the best support whilst participating in the awards that we run at our school.
Above all else, participating in and working towards the awards, gets me into the environment that I simply adore!
