Mountain Leader | 21/04/2017 |
Having been a Scout Leader for many years, spending time out in the great outdoors with young people and having an immense love of the outdoors generally, in 2015 I decided that it was time to progress from simply having a Scout Hill Walking Permit to finally doing my ML Training. After spending a few quality weekends in Snowdonia putting my skills to the test with other like minded folk, I realised what I had been missing and that I had the skills needed to gain my award. I went away and fine tuned the areas that I needed to work on and in 2017, I finally arrived back in Snowdonia to start my ML assessment. The assessment itself was amazing and not only a challenge (it would be an assessment if it wasn't challenging!) but also incredibly rewarding - to be outside, fully immersed in the award with only you, your backpack and your map / compass gave me a real sense of freedom. Since completing my award, I have continued to work with young people to get them out into the outdoors and continue to enjoy frequent trips to the Lakes where I am slowly becoming intimate with many different areas of that beautiful place as I aim to conquer the Wainwrights - 214 hills spread accross every inch of the lakes... I am currently 83% complete!
