I have been a keen climber since my teenage years when my friend and I taught ourselves to climb outdoors. I then progressed with professional courses and tuition and continued more actively in my 20's and 30's, eventually joining the Hertfordshire Mountaineering Club and becoming the climbing representative on the committee, representing climbers interests and organising trips and training. I would climb regularly at our local wall and at weekends mainly trad climbing on gritstone, trips to Wales and an annual sport climbing weeks in Spain. I took a backseat to focus on my career but have returned to the sport I love to become a self employed climbing wall instructor teaching regularly at various centres to new and experienced climbers and hoping to introduce more people to the sport I love
Since then I have worked at various centres and continued to work on my professional development. This has led me to currently running the climbing wall at Hertfordshire University including all aspects of safety, PPE maintenance, course design and delivery, staff training, setting and their NICAS course Director (up to Level 4). I also am on the board of the Association of British Climbing Walls
