I Started climbing around the mid seventies and began working my way up the grades, sometimes learning most from my mistakes in the 'traditional apprenticeship' style of the times.
I now pride myself on my technical ability both in movement on rock and with gear and rope management. I've been a 'Crag Rat' most of my adult life but have also ventured into Alpine terrain and visited some remote mountain regions such as Mount Logan in the Canadian Yukon and the Waddington range in British Columbia as a 'ski mountaineer'. I've climbed in almost every country in Europe as well as several American states and Peru.
I recently started climbing the Yosemite Big Walls in California and long Yosemite /Tuolumne free routes. Big Walls have definitely rounded off my arsenal of techniques for rock.
Now, as an instructor, with over 35 years of climbing experience, I want my main focus to be on providing low ratio, personalised courses for those making the transition from indoor walls to outdoor crags. I also wish to help those climbing both indoors and out to improve and progress in climbing and to introduce novices to the joys of climbing in a fun and exciting way.
I hope to instill a sense of respect and appreciation for the places we love to climb in, along the way.

Started climbing in 1977 properly and went through the 'traditional apprenticship'! experienced everything from trad to bolts to big wall and expeditions to far flung places over the years. I find that I've built a wealth of experience and knowledge from all these great times and simply love handing some of it over to others who share the excitement of what the sport, in all it's forms, can bring. There is now a better and safer way to start that journey than just going out there blind and hoping you get away with it in the beginning!
