I'm Jim. I operate professionally as Jim Weaver Climbing.
I’ve been a rock climber for thirty something years, a winter and ice climber for roughly half that time. I grew up in Sheffield where my passion for climbing took root.
These days I’m based in London, so I’m well placed for flights to the Alps, Norway & Canada for ice, and for driving down to the south west for soul soaring sea cliff trad and sport climbing. The only drawback to being in London is the extra driving when heading for North Wales, The Lakes & Scotland - a soft excuse like that will never stop me though!
Most of my instructing work involves driving clients to The Peak District, Portland or The Wye Valley for multi or single day trips. Either to introduce them to rock climbing outdoors or teaching lead.
The biggest kick I get as an instructor is to pass on the passion I have for climbing.

20-odd years ago I completed the SPA training but never got round to being assessed and never worked in the field as an instructor until 2019 when I finally decided on a change of direction. I qualified as an RCI and now work freelance for another company and also with my own clients. I'm so pleased to have finally done it. I find the job completely rewarding. I had great feedback from the trainer and assessors and now also from clients which shows me I made the right decision in taking it up professionally. I love it.
I've been climbing for over 30 years, working in climbing retail for much of that and often helping friends & colleagues by passing on tips and skills as an amateur, but I have to say that having a formal grounding in a qualification like the RCI makes all the difference. It has made me a better teacher and a better climber. I much prefer being a pro.
