Extreme rock-climber & winter climber, also thoroughly enjoys milder challenges. Passion for the outdoors, landscape & wildlife & extensive experience of exploring mountains, coastline & countryside worldwide with camping expeditions in Africa & Nepal & Pennines. Often found gadding about wild swimming, riding a mountain bike or even unicycle, fell running, caving, paddling or orienteering. My recent projects include a Frog Graham Round, Puddle Buckley Round & my own projects for Bearing up! (Variety of straight linear routes and a C2C unicycling adventure!) www.facebook.com/bearingup
At Leicester University I completed teacher training in Physics & Maths & began outdoor leadership qualifications (Summer ML & SPA). I joined the university mountaineering club & much later Calderdale Mountaineering Club where I became newsletter editor. Climbing walking, biking, wandering underground & over-ground, on & in water & up crag, down dale, & I now regularly “get out there” with the Rucksack Club. Within Mountain Rescue, A member of Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team. I have completed MIAS mountain bike leader award & am enthusiastic about GPS & electronic map technology used in education. I hold a First Aid certificate & DofE Awards supervisor/assessor/verifier status. Taught in primary & secondary education, in mainstream & independent sectors, run outdoor activities & residential excursions, & trained & assessed for DofE awards. I believe in the benefits of learning outside. Internationally, I have taught in Nepal, led a young people's expedition to Kenya & Tanzania. I am interested in community & culture, landscape & nature inter-relate. Touring British islands & Ireland, Norway, mainland Europe across Alps, venturing over Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, climbing in East Africa, USA, & Himalayas allowed me to spend many nights in bivi-bag or tent. Successes include two Winter Spine Race finishes. 2nd in MRT Challenger South Jan. 2024. 7th - MRT Challenger North Jan. 2025.
