I have been a climber and mountaineer for over 40 years. I learned to climb in Patagonia where my Irish ancestors went to live a few generations ago. There I made the first female ascent of the emblematic mountain Fitzroy before being invited to Europe to climb the North Face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps, on behalf of United Nations UK.
Success on that meant I was asked to do the stunt work on the film Cliffhanger, so I stayed climbing around Europe before a serious accident stopped me from climbing a couple of years. I reverted to teaching languages in Sheffield whilst recovering and learning to climb again.
I developed a personal climbing style to make up for a permanent nerve injury in my right foot and trained hard to win the UK indoor Climbing Championships in 1994.
While instructing at the weekends, I was a P.E. and modern languages teacher in schools and colleges until I decided to follow my heart and teach climbing full time.
Since then, I have climbed all over the world -up to 8b sport and E 7 trad - and still love all types of climbing in many different areas.
Currently, I live and instruct in North Wales during Spring & Summer and go to Spain in the Autumn and Winter to follow the best weather for mountaineering and rock climbing.
I coordinate and train a team of fully qualified instructors who I like and trust to do a great job whenever I cannot teach myself. Together, we are the Rock Climbing Company and we all share the passion of being in the mountains whether hiking, scrambling, bouldering, rock climbing or via Ferrata. We just love being in the mountains and help others to discover them.
