Phil is actively involved in the outdoors having lived and worked in the area all his life. Employed as the first Ranger covering the whole of the Kincardine and Deeside area he went on to be the first Ranger employed by the NTS on their Mar Lodge Estate and has over twenty years experience in rangering throughout Britain, as a volunteer, and over ten years in the Cairngorms. Having been involved with H&S training throughout his career he has taught at Nebosh general cert level and is also accredited to IOSH and CIEH. Keen to encourage others to learn the basics for enjoying themselves safely in any environment a number of courses are offered. A proactive approach to safety allows him to network qualified leaders for all activities.
A qualified Mountain Leader, he has over been involved since 1985 in Mountain Rescue in the Deeside area. A Senior First Aid Instructor for Mountain Medicine, he began his own first aid training in 1974. Practical experience includes attendance at A&E Dept, ARI and working with the Scottish Ambulance Service. EMT trained he has also completed ACLS and ATLS courses at Medical School, Aberdeen.AHe is an Associate Member of British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS). In 2012 he won the inaugural St Andrews First aid award for the private sector
Having been involved with expeditions to Norway, Iceland, Greenland and the Himalayas he has a considerable amount of outdoor experience in remote, hostile environments.
With an increasing number of accidents occurring in the Scottish Mountains during summer and winter, Braemar Mountaincraft offer a number of courses and guiding service to let the novice build up skills and self confidence or the experienced learn or brush up on new techniques. Work can be undertaken with groups or individually.
