Slick ropework for Mountain Leaders (Saturday) | 19/11/2022 | 1.00 |
My first trips to the mountains were with my dad. It began with North Wales, and then holidays in Scotland. The mountain air always seem to clear my asthmatic lungs. As a child, asthma sometimes made climbing stairs exhausting. For that reason I try not to take for granted being able to ascend a hill or a rock face. Through working with adults with intellectual disabilities and supporting children and young adults through Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions, I have a keen interest in enabling access to healthy outdoor activity. Part of this is identifying "invisible" barriers. A trip to the outdoors should be an enjoyable adventure not an ordeal. It should leave one satisfied with the expedition yet looking forward to the next time.
