Spend a day on Tryfan with Mike Raine and Jenny Dart. Mike is a former Senior Instructor at Plas y Brenin the National Mountain Centre, the author of Nature of Snowdonia and The Mountain Leader - a practical manual. Jenny is a working MCI and member of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team. We'll be discussing how Mountain Leaders can work with groups on the classic North Ridge scramble and remain within the scope of the award and your experience.

The north ridge of Tryfan is one of our best known and loved mountain routes, but it does have its ‘traps’. I know myself it took several ascents before I managed to go the same way twice! Come and join me and fast forward your experience by taking the benefit of mine. This is not a ropework refresher and we will be exploring one or two of the variants, particularly around the forbidding north tower, looking for the best route at grade one. The idea of the workshop is to look at route choice, decision making, group sizes, personal familiarisation, assessing your group and relevant environmental topics.

This workshop is aimed at qualified (rather than trainee) mountain leaders who want to work on Tryfan and would like to develop their own understanding of scrambling ground in relation to the Mountain leader scheme. The workshop will qualify for one Mountain Training Association CPD point.
