WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
We are promised a Worm Moon tonight! The Worm Moon is the name given to the final full moon of winter in the northern hemisphere, which usually occurs in March. The name comes from Native Americans who noticed the trails of earthworms that appeared in the newly thawed ground. The Worm Moon symbolizes the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
We will be walking around the wonderful Calke Abbey Estate at night, visiting some of the magnifient oak trees - notably The Olde Man of Calke, reportedly to be 100O years old! There are some splendid lime trees in the park too.
We will visit the historical heritage lime kilns area and walk through the lime tunnels which are atmospheric at night! Head torces definitely required! Calke Abbey itself will look splendid by the light of the Worm Moon ... hopefully we won't see any of the spectres which lurk in the tunnels under the Abbey!
Do come along and enjoy a walk around this fabulous National Trust property at night. The trees and Abbey will look fabulous in the light of the moon.
