WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The Workshop will be delivered through informal discussions and practical on-the-hill training.
Parking and meeting in the Upper Car Park which has Public Toilets and is on the same rough track and beyond Carrick Cottage - 'Honesty Box' in place for nominal car parking fee.

The Session will begin with a short briefing in the car park before hiking into the Mournes along a well defined track and operating in the Annalong Valley between the lower slopes of Slieve Binnian and Annalong Wood, and below Douglas Crag and short of Blue Lough.
The Session will be a progression on the previous Night Nav delivered in January from Meelmore Lodge and will begin with a development of:
1. Pacing over measured 100m legs on flat(ish!) undulating ground to ascending, contouring, descending & reverse routing to determine personal pacing differences over varied terrain and gradients at night and the effects (if any) of a dominant leg.
2. Handrailing, Aiming-off, Attack Points, Dead-reckoning, Taking and Walking on a Compass Bearing, and Timing will all be discussed and practiced.
3. Use of the above techniques along with Sweep Search and Spiral Search (also known as Box Search) will be explained and practiced to arrive at a specific location and to find specific features.
The format of the event will be flexible to accommodate input and questions from all participants whilst endeavouring to practice as many navigation techniques as possible during the available time.
