About

WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

We slow down to take a closer look at ‘lower plants’; the mosses, ferns and lichens we might otherwise stride past (and yes, lichens aren’t technically plants).  These primitive plants were vital to the evolution of life on earth and continue to play essential ecological roles.  You will learn their value and hopefully be fascinated by their variety and beauty, to the enrichment of your experience outdoors and that of your clients.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Roles of ‘lower plants’ in evolution, ecological succession, food chains etc
  • Know how to classify ‘lower plants’ into categories, and to identify some species
  • Ways to engage clients in appreciating ‘lower plants’
  • Resources for identification and further study

EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED

Come prepared for a day out on the moors, including food and drink; also warm clothing as we won’t be walking far.  Bring a hand lens if you own one, though you will be able to borrow one on the day.  Also bring along any favourite flora books or resources.
