What does an average day at work look like for an MCI? Is it what I imagine? Can I do it? These and many more questions will be answered as we explore what being an MCI is all about.
Join us for a one-day workshop where we’ll break down the key principles of being an MCI and inspire you to begin your own journey.
If, like many others, you aspire to progress through the Mountain Training awards, the leap to becoming an MCI can feel like a big step. This one-day workshop is designed for Mountain Leader (ML) holders who are active climbers and curious about becoming an MCI in the future. If you're asking yourself, “Can I do that!?”—this session is for you.
Great question! We’ll break down the MCI role and explore the following:
A typical day as an MCI—what the scope and requirements are and what they mean for you.
How MCI clients differ from those in other qualifications.
A practical session on the rock, covering personal skills vs. professional skills.
Food and drink for a full day in the hills.
A small rack, if you have one.
Your personal climbing kit: Harness, helmet, rock shoes, etc.
Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing.
This workshop will be led by John Brooks, an experienced WMCI based in the Lake District and working across Britain. John has extensive experience as an MCI, coaching a wide range of clients in both mountain and rock environments. He also works on Summer ML courses and is a recommended mentor for Mountain Training.
Our day together will be engaging, informative, and a safe space to ask anything about the MCI pathway.
