Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.

Rock Skills Introduction, is an ideal introduction to climbing outdoors or for those who have never climbed or climbed outdoors before and would like to give it a go.

Duration: 1 Day 9.30am - 5.00pm

Rock Skills Introduction:
Climbing time is maximised, 8 hours contact time. Fundamental skills and techniques are covered such as how to tie into the rope and how to move efficiently and safely on rock. Enjoying your time climbing is emphasised. Every effort is made to encourage and equip the participant with the skills and enthusiasm necessary to progress to the next stage of climbing.

Some topics covered:
• Guidebooks
• Climbing etiquette
• Fundamental movement skills
• Equipment harness, helmets, clothing, ropes, belay devices
• Footwear selection
• Knots and rope management
• Top and bottom rope belaying
• Abseil with a backup system
• Environment, leave no trace
• Hazards, managing risk
• Emergency procedures

ML: Mountain. Leader
RCI: Rock Climbing Instructor (Single Pitch Award)
RCDI: Rock Climbing Development Instructor (Lead climbing Instruction)
MP: Multipitch Award (Multipitch Climbing)
Mountaineering Ireland approved provider
Insured & Garda Vetted
