Examples of safe route finding in avalanche conditions using maps and photos. Human factors and the decision making process (inc. Heuristics) Snowpack metamorphism Sunday on the hill covered; General Observations with regard to snow distribution and weather on the day Route planning and execution Continual assessment of snow underfoot Continual assessment of weather conditions overhead Monitoring of wind effects (any transportation visible) Transceiver and strategic digging exercise in real avalanche debris Snowpack analysis Hasty pits Compression tests Safe travel in descent The workshop was run by Andy Nelson IFMGA Guide, MIC, ML(W) director and deputy leader for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team and has worked for the Scottish Avalanche Service.
