This workshop is part of the 2017 MTA autumn conference, taking place at Plas y Brenin and is worth 1 CPD point. Open to all Mountain Leader trainees or Mountain Leader award holders this is an opportunity to consolidate on areas of personal performance, especially useful for those considering assessment and is intended to look at current ideas, techniques and practices. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask as many questions as you like, seek advice where needed and to practice the areas of the syllabus that you feel you need to. Part of the workshop will focus on some simple ways to understand contours and how to use them in navigation using contour only maps and will include relating map to ground and identifying slope angles and aspect, Identifying features and positions , method of relocations and route strategy using solely contours. You will be outside in the hills/mountains most of the day so ensure that you have sufficient warm clothing, walking boots and waterproofs.
