This workshop is for full members of the Association who are either acting as Technical Advisers or are looking to take on such a role.  It will cover the role of the Technical Adviser [TA] in a broad remit, for ropes courses, climbing walls, activity centres, for hill walking, mountaineering and gorge/ghyll scrambling.

The role of the TA in advising business owners in discharging their responsibilities under various legislation is not well understood and this will be explored to ensure colleagues might give good advice.  The workshop will also include assessing competence in staff delivering activities, writing statements of competence following an assessment by the TA, helping the provider draft suitable operating procedures, risk assessments and staff competency levels.

The workshop will also include topics and questions raised by those attending.

The workshop will be run by Joby Davis (WMCI) and Pete Stacey (MCI & IML). They have been involved in the delivery of these workshops over the last two years, and at AMI AGMs, at an MTA workshop, as well as Pete delivering these for BAIML at their AGMs.

Joby is one of the leading TA's for climbing walls across the uK and elsewhere, and has a wealth of knowledge in advising and supporting activity centres.

Pete is a TA for a number of climbing walls, activity centres and ropes courses.  He also inspects for the Learning outside the Classroom and Adventuremark schemes, as well as having previously inspected for AALS.

The workshop will be delivered by Zoom.  The first session on Monday 15th June is a 45min introduction session.

Sessions 2 and 3 on the 16th and 18th June will start at 1-30pm and run through around 4-30pm each day.
