BAA: An introduction to the Be Avalanche Aware guidelines and process.
We shall talk through the planning process, then the mountain journey and relating observations to the planning stage and finally Key Place observations and decision making. Opportunity to ask questions throughout and at the end.
This short online MTA session forms part of a free series of informative and interactive webinars designed to help provide continued support for members during the current lockdown. All sessions are hosted by experts in their fields and/or Mountain Training Course Directors that run training and assessment courses. The majority of our hosts are also current MTA workshop providers. All hosts are generously volunteering their time to run these sessions for members.
We anticipate these sessions will last for about an hour, but please leave extra time in your schedule.
These webinars are being run by experienced members of the staff team at Glenmore lodge. This particular session is being hosted by Bill Strachan and Derek Bain.
Both Bill and Derek have worked at Glenmore Lodge for over 10 years and have been developing and delivering avalanche education for most of that time. Both have travelled internationally to work with avalanche educators and Derek is currently involved in an education project for SAFOS. Derek presented research conducted by Glenmore Lodge at the International Snow Science Workshop in Innsbruck, 2018. Bill is involved with Mountain Rescue where the ability to understand avalanche forecasts and plan appropriately is a vital part of the work. Both are course directors for the Winter Mountain Leader and Winter MCI qualifications.
