WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
This 1 day workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for aspirant Mountain Leaders to refresh knowledge, and practice skills, in preperation for attending award assessment. The workshop is also open to qualified ML’s who may wish to recap and avoid skills fade.
We will examine group management, the options available, the decisions to be made, the factors to be considered and practice the skills required, to ensure safe travel through areas of steep and broken ground.
Through demonstration, explanation and attendee practical application, the workshop will provide an understanding of the Mountain Leaders use of a rope, within the remit of the award, for the safeguarding of a group member in descent and ascent, confidence roping and leader safeguarding their own descent.
EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED
Clothing and kit as required/expected, to be carried by a ‘Mountain Leader’, if leading a group, on a hill day, as suitable for the conditions expected on the date.
Helmet & ML rope - limited numbers can be provided, please request at booking. Gloves suitable for ropework.
CATERING/FOOD
None provided. Bring food, snacks and drinks for the day.
WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS
Mark Valentine is a Summer, Winter & International Mountain Leader, he also holds the RCI, CWDI & FCA awards. He is a Mountain Leader Award Course Director working with, and on behalf of, both Snowdonia Mountain Skills & Mckinlay Mountaineering.
