WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

Mountain Training Association have teamed up with the Met Office to provide this specialist weather workshop specifically to support the syllabi of Mountain Training's qualifications as well as enhancing the knowledge of qualified leaders and instructors in their ability to apply information gained from available forecast information, practically whilst planning and dynamically whilst out in the hills and mountains.

This is an online session and will comprise of two parts;

  • Part 1 – An online self-taught session using the pre-course resources and materials hosted on the new Met Office learning portal (exclusive to attendees). This should take place prior to the part 2 learning webinar. The Met Office plan to send workshop attendees the access details to their online portal 2 weeks before the live webinar is scheduled to run;

  • Part 2 – A trainer-led session, covering the remainder of the course content. This webinar will be divided into several short sessions throughout the day on 10th November.

Prior to the event you will receive an invitation to access the Met Office online learning portal and you will also receive an invitation to attend the trainer-led webinar.

The Met Office will be using an online platform to host their webinar and will be in touch to help you register for the platform in due course.

By the end of the event you’ll be able to:

  • Interpret weather forecasts (media/online etc) and relate to mountain conditions
  • Use weather observations to identify a changing forecast situation and predict short term outcomes
  • Plan a route/activities based on weather impacts
  • Interpret a weather (Synoptic) chart and relate to mountain conditions
  • State the importance of air mass theory and what it means for mountain weather summer and winter
