Deer Management in Scotland

23/10/2021 - 23/10/2021

Edinample

Bookings start from £40.00

About

This day out will cover all aspects of deer management in Scotland, and will be led by ecologist Cathy Mayne, who works as an upland habitats specialist looking at the impact of deer. Cathy has a PhD in upland ecology, holds a Deer Stalking Certificate Level 2 and is a former EML. She will be assisted by Niall Rowantree, a well-known stalker with decades of experience of deer management. We will visit Glenample Estate, just after the end of the stag season, and see the facilities they have there courtesy of head stalker Mike Holliday. We will also head out towards the hill to look at deer ecology and behaviour, deer impacts and, most importantly, how recreation and walkers interact with and impact on deer. You can ask about anything related to deer management and we will endeavour to give you as full an answer as possible. By the end of the day you will have a much better understanding of the practical issues that deer managers face, how they go about their job, and how that intersects with the work of mountain leaders like you.

This is a special opportunity for mountain leaders to hear first hand from people in the community who work with deer and deer management.

Parking instructions will be sent out to attendees just before the event.

For all enquiries and to book a place please contact the Scottish BAIML Rep Suzie Dick directly on suziemdick@gmail.com.
