Nature of the Peak District - Nice to know, need to know?

This workshop designed to explore what is key enviro knowledge and what could be considered further knowledge for Mountain Leaders, Mountaineering Instructors and Hill and Moorland Leaders. This workshop is aimed at those who are potentially going on to train others about the environment. The idea to look at what is, and what is not, 'need to know' about the environment and what is simply ‘nice to know’. We will work as a team to explore a range of techniques that might be used to teach people what it is they need to know. We will use a range of teaching techniques. The day will be ‘on the hill’ so you will need to be dressed appropriately and bring a packed lunch.

We will look at

• Why the geology of the Peak District is a quite straightforward compared to the Lakes or Snowdonia
• Glaciation
• Land use issues
• Flowers, trees and other plants
• Birds
• Fungi and lichen
• Plant evolution

Equipment

The day will be ‘on the hill’ so you will need to be dressed appropriately and bring a packed lunch.
