WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
From Llanfairfechan there is a strong mountain and coast character with expansive sea views and steep hills rising from the coastline which quickly become the Carneddau mountain range, home to some of the rarest birds in Wales.
RSPB Conservation Officer, Jack Slattery will talk to us about some of the upland birds in the area, such as the red-billed chough, raven, stonechat and wheatear. This area is a stronghold for the chough, and there are only 200 breeding pairs left across the entire country.
John Roberts, archaeologist at Snowdonia National Park, will accompany us to introduce some of the ancient features that we will see on-route. The traditional feeding grounds of the chough overlap with some fantastic archaeological remains, particularly late prehistoric settlements and field systems.
As part of the Carneddau Landscape partnership scheme Snowdonia-Active are organising a series of training sessions aimed at outdoor activity instructors. This is the third in the series this Spring with one more to follow. The purpose of these sessions is to increase understanding and enjoyment of its history, cultural traditions and wildlife amongst outdoor providers so they can share this knowledge with clients and the wider public.
