This workshop seeks to offer an introduction to the different aspects of dry tooling and how it can be used and enjoyed in its own right as well as how it can complement year round training for winter objectives.
The workshop will look at covering-
*Dry tooling technique, dry tooling safety, axe management and leashless climbing, key principles of efficient movement, moving on natural and manufactured holds, personal coaching points to develop your own tooling as well as provide you with the base to introduce others to the discipline.
*Advanced dry tooling techniques for steep and or powerful route climbing.
*The distinctions between outdoor drytooling and competition ice climbing.
*The ethics of dry tooling and how to grow and promote a healthy discipline within the sport and the environment.
The workshop is being run by Matt Foot. Matt is a Lakes based climber and GB ice climbing team athlete, with experience of competing in European and World Cup competitions as well a passion for chasing many Lakes and Scottish winter objectives.
The workshop will meet at Hodge Close Quarry parking at 9:30am. The workshop will move between Bakestone Quarry and The Works, depending on what is being covered.
You will need to bring-
Helmet, harness, B3 boots and crampons (mono points very desirable),
Some form of protective eyewear is highly advised! We will have some spare eyewear on the day.
Winter climbing axes (T-rated axes. Course appropriate for all levels of T rated climbing axes)
Single rope and sport rack
Optional equipment
Gloves - Screwfix/Toolstation cheap work gloves do nicely!
Eyewear - personal preference.
- A small range of high end axes and competition axes will be available to sample.
- Thanks to the Scottish dry tooling club, fruit boots may be available for day hire for a small fee depending on size, please enquire.
