Following on from the discussion on ‘imposter syndrome’ and the confidence ‘cult’ure at the Women in Mountain Leadership conference, we will cover ideas around the gendered landscape of leadership in the outdoors.
In this workshop we will explore how understandings of what it takes to lead can entrench stereotypes, often leaving us feeling that we need to ‘fix’ something about ourselves to measure up to expectations. We will examine how this ‘fixing’ can be gendered and the implications of this for all genders, including beyond binary identities. We will explore how understandings of gendered diversity are evolving and require us to examine our own assumptions. Through reflecting on these issues we aim to raise awareness of how and why discussions on gendered diversity outdoors are important for leadership practice.
