WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

This one day course in Eryri/Snowdonia will concentrate on the Hazards of Steep ground section of the Mountain Leader syllabus. We will spend time re-capping skills and looking at different methods to suit different terrain and groups.  By the end of the day I will be able to give you detailed feedback on where you are at in terms of being ready for assessment.

What will we cover?

• Route finding on steep and complex terrain.
• Methods to safguard a group without using a rope.
• What is appropriate scrambling terrain for a Mountain Leader.
• Rope management.
• Appropriate knots.
• Appropriate methods of belaying, including choice of safe anchors.
• How to protect a short scramble type descent or ascent using a rope.
• How to  safeguard yourself in descent on scrambliing type terrain.
• The leadership and teaching side of the syllabus when it comes to managing groups in steep terrain.

There will also be opportunities throughout the day to add to your general knowledge.

EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED

Personal walking kit to suit the weather. Ropes and helmets can be provided but please bring your own if you have them.

CATERING/FOOD

Please bring a packed lunch and drink.
