Join Jim for a day exploring the nature, geology and landscapes of this magnificent mountain at the southern end of Eryri (Snowdonia National Park). With its colossal cliffs harbouring rare arctic-alpine flowers and glaciated cwms and wooded valleys there is a
huge amount to discover in this special region.
This workshop is aimed at developing your understanding of the natural world. We will take at look at the mountain environment from its geological history to its vegetation and human influences upon the landscape. We will identify general characteristics of rock types, habitats and take a closer look at the wildlife which inhabit this environment.
We will also delve into its icy past by investigating the influence glaciation had on the landscape with a look at spectacular examples of glacial features and landforms. The icy past climate also brought cold-loving plants to the area, some of which can still be seenin c ertain areas on the mountain and we will have a chance to look for these ‘relict communities’ on our journey through the mountain environment.
