Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
The Mountain Leader scheme is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader and you’ll never look back.
Over the duration of 5 days candidates will be assessed on all aspects of the Mountain Leader Award syllabus. The assessment process includes a 3 day journey into the mountains, involving a 2 night 'wild camp' mini exped & night/low visibility navigation elements.
This assessment will be held at suitable locations around the Snowdonia National Park.
