About

WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

This CPD workshop has been developed for mountain leaders, hill and moorland leaders and climbing & mountaineering guides, and also for those training for and aspiring to those qualifications and roles. Its content is designed to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Expand understanding and awareness of the of the UK’s mountains and uplands as wildlife habitats and the variation in those habitats from valley to summit.
  • Develop knowledge and appreciation of the wildlife which inhabits mountain and upland ecosystems.
  • Learn about the challenges faced by mountain wildlife and also how it adapts to the environment.
  • Provide an overview of conservation work being carried out to protect and restore uplands ecosystems.
  • Gain confidence in recognising and identifying species of birds and mammals encountered in mountain and upland habitats. Including recommended resources for further information and study.
  • Familiarisation with some key plant species, which are an important part of mountain and uplands ecosystems.
  • Enable leaders to engage with their groups and companions on the subject matter.

Workshop Format:

The workshop will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams video, as an interactive session. Participants do not need to have Microsoft Teams accounts or subscriptions as a link will be provided to enable them to join the call from PC, ipad, Mac or mobile device.

The online format enables us to “visit” geographically widespread habitats across four seasons in a way that would not be possible to achieve during a day in the hills.

Using high resolution photos and images, we take a close look at a variety of mountain and uplands ecosystems, the wildlife which inhabit them and the flora which shapes them.
