Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

The Summer Mountain Leader run by Leading Edge is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader.

Leading Edge run Assessments in an atmosphere which ensures we get the best performance from you we can. It is relaxed and open, encouraging discussion and debate around many subjects. This will invariably provide us with the chance to deliver extra learning and coaching for you but all the while allowing you the maximum amount of opportunities to shine. A super positive experience. 

We will meet on the first morning at the Tyn Y Coed Hotel in Capel Curig. We will start the course with an informal chat and an explanation of how the assessment process works. The rest of the week we will make the most of the weather and choose appropriate venues as the week progresses. The last three days will be a expedition style mountain journey, spending two nights wild camping. We aim to finish at a local cafe for refreshment and results.
