Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
The Summer Mountain Leader run by Leading Edge is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader. Mountain Leaders operate the length and breadth of the country with all sorts of groups of people; from scouts and schoolchildren to outdoor instructors and those that have retired. The award is what you make it and there are countless opportunities for passionate Mountain Leaders. Assessments are run in an atmosphere which ensures we get the best performance from you we can. It is relaxed and open, encouraging discussion and debate around many subjects. This will invariably provide us with the chance to deliver extra learning and coaching for you but all the while allowing you the maximum amount of opportunities to shine. A super positive experience. We will meet on the first morning in Bethesda where we will start the course with an informal chat and an explanation of how the assessment process works. For the rest of the week we are based at the very fine and friendly Tyn-Y-Coed Hotel in Capel Curig a perfect venue to meet and plan our days out on the mountain.
