I became involved in the outdoors from early in life as a casual walker along with my parents and grandparents in the Peak District and Cornwall and would take every opportunity to climb nearby rocks and boulders for fun. However it was only when I started University in Buxton studying Outdoor Activity Leadership and Coaching that I began climbing properly with university friends and members of the Derwent Mountaineering Club. Through this I began progressing quickly from gradual hills to mountain peaks in Europe and from small single pitch crags to multi pitch mountain crags in Wales, Scotland and Spain. I now climb, walk, scramble and cave at every available opportunity and have my own young adventure sports instructing company.
As part of my degree I also had the opportunity to become involved in climbing coaching through Advanced Climbing Coaching Modules, research papers and physiological analysis tools based in the university. This gave me a keen interest in climbing coaching to pursue as a career after I left university, particularly in developing young talent in to elite athletes capable of competing nationally and internationally.
I have been instructing and coaching full and part time for 4 years now. Mainly with groups of teenagers on NCS and a fair few Stag and Hen parties too, jobs ranging from gorge scrambles at Fairbrook to charity abseils off on shopping centres. Since 2017 I have been coaching a youth squad in Derby and some members of the GB Paraclimbing team alongside Jamie Vardy at Apex Climbing Coaching.
