DESCRIPTION OF ROUTE:
Paddy Buckley Round Expedition Day 2
Woke up at 7am and left camp 30mins later. Today was the longest and toughest day Wind speed where high all-day and kept getting woken up through the night with the occasional gust. First summit was Cnicht arriving on the summit around 8:30am I didn’t hang around to long and headed SW down the ridge into nantmor joining the road at Dolfriod Cottage. I headed through the village then left on the A498 for 200m. There was a small footpath that lead into Aberglaslyn Woods and then soon detriated into boggy ground. Progress was slow here as I navigated by way through wet terrain and using stone walls to guide my way to the summit of Bryn Banog. From here I headed to Moel Hebog which at the time was a horrible steep accent. I arrived at the summit at 1pm and stopped for a quick lunch and rest before heading north west to Moel Yr Ogof, Moel Lefn and onto Y Gyrn. I then dropped down into the Quarry and made my way down SW to the road. I had always wanted to walk the Nantle Ridge so from here headed down the road till I reached the farm house. There where no paths from here so had to knock on the door and ask for permission to head through a gate out the back of the house and onto the hill. I was told to follow Quad Bike tracks, which turned out to be a maze, which they used to get to the summit of Craig Cwm Silyn. I took the direct line up the mountain, towards the summit the ground turned into steep rocky terrain which was great fun and soon found my self at the summit. It was getting late now and by the time I reached the memorial stone on Trum Y Ddysgl then sun was setting. The ridge was spectacular strong winds made the rocky sections tricky as I was often getting blow around with my rucksack acting as a sail. I reached the summit of Y Garn in the dark and decided to head for the Snowdon Ranger YHA Hostel. I had planned on camping on the ridge but strong winds changed my mind. I dropped down the steep side into Rhyd Ddu and then walked along to the hostel arriving there at 20:30pm.
Area :
Moelwynion
The Moelwynion (a Welsh plural, sometimes anglicised to Moelwyns) are a group of mountains in central Snowdonia. They extend from the north-east of Porthmadog to Moel Siabod, the highest of the group. The name derives from the names of the two largest mountains in the group, Moelwyn Mawr (great white hill) and Moelwyn Bach (little white hill).
