The object of the day was to climb Jacks Rake on Pavey Ark and gain a QMD. We had an ML guy and an SPA guy with us.
We parked at Old Dungeon Ghyll and were surprised to find a friend who had told us that they could not make this trip already waiting in the car park. A good start to the day.
At low level the vis was good but quite cold.
We ascended up Stickle Ghyll to Stickle Tarn and made our way round to the start of Jacks Rake, the scramble was in completely shrouded in cloud but made it quite atmospheric. At the end of the long gulley we turned right were the crag becomes slightly steeper and we practiced some safety on steep ground as my friend had a new harness and wanted to test it.
The vis didn`t improve but the rain held off and the wind was kind.
We practiced some bearing work to Thunacar Knot and then to Pike of Stickle and descended down Loft Crag and Mark Gate back to the car.
