Description

An excellent but testing / frustrating day.
First ascent of Tryfan. Spent a long time picking my way up the North Face - so many different routes!!
Having passed the Cannon Stone and made it to the last flat piece of rock before the final climb, I found it difficult to see a route up. I moved round to the left of the mountain (east face) following a hopeful path, however this petered out into an almost sheer gully so I turned back. The right hand side of the mountain (west face) didn`t offer any better solutions.
I took a break and had lunch, and tried one more time to find a route up the large scramble but to no avail. I decided that to cover this scramble I need to consult someone with more experience here.
Unfortunately no one else was around whilst I was there so couldn`t ask for guidance / advice.
It was a frustrating moment, but ultimately I was happy that I hadn`t got myself further and into trouble. Had I been with a group I think we could have made some better group decisions and made it to the top. However at present I am happy to say that leading a group (professionally) would not be a possibility for Tryfan right now.
Weather was incredibly hot - no cloud cover which meant I did go through a lot of water - had I been with a group who were also low on water I think I would have suggested we turn back and change the descent plan.

Area : Glyderau

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
