Description

12.7km, 870m. Achnasheen, Northwest Highlands.
Cloud base 450m, with steady rain.
Left Achnasheen station 11.00, had a bit of trouble accessing the hills due to padlocks on gates and trying to get Sapphire past the dear fence. In the end she went under at a stream while I went over at a gate. No path all the way up to the ridge. Fiona Bhinn 12.50. Cold and wet on the ridge so tried not to hang about. Came down via the east ridge and stalkers path to see a bit more and make it a better walk. The gates at the end of the stalkers path were also padlocked! Got bath the van at 14.45.
A short day to do the last of the Fannaichs.

Area : Loch Maree to Loch Broom and The Fannaichs

This area contains four main sub-regions: An Teallach, The Fannaichs, Kinlochewe & Letterewe. The highest Munro is Sgurr Mor, part of The Fannaichs range, at a height of 1110m. The impressive Slioch (981m), although not the tallest, is described by the SMC Munros Guide as being ‘one of the great sights of the Northern Highlands’ and well worth a visit. This area sits to the north of the A832 and is almost completely devoid of human habitation.
