Description

Climbed untracked terrain from Pierre a Berard refuge. Reached saddle and headed along to Mt Oreb. Out and back.
Then climbed the choss heap, Arête des Cristaux. V precarious.
One step on the ridge repulsed me. I tried to traverse direct underneath it but terrain hideous. So backtracked, descended on scree from 2900 to 2700m, traversed some scree and snow and then climbed an epic scree to regain ridge. Straightforward to summit of Mt Buet 3100m.
Great 360 view. Watched a vulture, poss a gypaete.
Ran down the normal rte. Reach hut around 5. Descended from hut around 7, carrying pickets for Matthias, the guardian. Paid no bill for my two night stay. Reached Buet a little after 8.
