Day 1 of a Gold practise expedition weekend.
Supervising a group of 5, along with me were Ryan Whitehead (learning the DofE assessor role), and Dave Barber (IML).
Spent the day following the group in high winds, mostly in the cloud layer with visibility down to 50m. It was a long day as the group were very slow to progress, stopping frequently for no good reason.
We spent time closely supporting the group, giving teaching where / when needed with navigation in poor visibility, and making sure they were using things like timings / pacing`s to keep on track. The group had issues with their getting up & out walking timings and personal kit / admin, which meant that some essential kit got wet unnecessarily. However we managed this by ensuring the group knew how to rectify this when they came down out of the cloud and got into some sunshine.

Its highest point is Fan Brycheiniog at 802 metres or 2,631 ft. The Black Mountain also forms a part of the recently created Fforest Fawr Geopark.
