Day 2 of DofE Gold practise weekend.
Today we took the group for a linear West - East walk, taking in a good amount of ascent onto Sugarloaf, then downhill using more practical navigation techniques on shorter paths.
We set the group off (myself and Ryan Whitehead), and left them to it, agreeing to meet them on the summit of Sugarloaf at an agreed time window. We set up an OP on a different route to the summit where we watched the group appear on a ridgeline, then met them on the summit for a quick progress update.
We then left the group to complete the walk by themselves, meeting them at the end with no issues (compared to the previous day). Very happy to have this group through, and see some learning being taken on.
Hand held radios used at all times to ensure comms throughout the trip.
Area :
Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park
Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is a mountain range in South Wales. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as "the central Beacons" they include South Wales' highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), a designation which also encompasses ranges both to the east and the west of "the central Beacons". This much wider area is also commonly referred to as "the Brecon Beacons".
