Description

3.5 day practise expedition for an aspirant Gold group.
Day 1 spent travelling to the area, then 3 hours of walking with the group, practising nav - pacings / timings / orientating / nav using natural features etc.
Days 2 - 4 spent on Gold standard routes. Due to the weather warning in force for the area, the decision was made to have the group stay in one campsite for the duration, getting bussed in / out of camp each day. This was the only change made to the group to ensure that they had a dry base to come back to each day. They did really well considering the strong winds and torrential rains they faced each day. Morale was high, navigation was great - on two occasions they found they were on a wrong footpath, and so radioed this through to me to keep me updated, so I had no issues with their whereabouts at any time.
