Description

A still, crisp winters day. Blue sky and views as far as the eye could see. 23.5 km today, nice neve, with some soft patches in places. Crampons not needed all day even though snow was from the roadside at Balsporran cottages. The snow depth was incredible, with the trig point on Ben Udlamain only having about 40cm sticking out!
10 hour day due to a friend being much slower from the start, he went down after 2 peaks. Loch Erict was partially frozen.

Area : Loch Rannoch to Newtonmore (Beinn Udlamain)

This area is listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The Drumochter Hills) and covers the hills and mountains between Loch Rannoch and Newtonmore. Loch Ericht forms the western boundary and Glen Tromie the eastern boundary, with the Pass of Drumochter (the A9 and the Highland Main Line) dividing the area in two. Among the seven Munros in this area, only one is over 1000m (Beinn Udlamain is 1011m).
