Walked into Bob Scott`s bothy the day previous, iced track covered in lots of snow. Spent the night in the bothy and then early morning headed north along Glen Derry, aiming for the Hutchinson hut and onto Derry Cairngorm. However. With serious amount of snow we were breaking trail at valley level. In a group of seven, four decided to turn back. Given that I had walked so far in, I changed plans and went steeply up the side of the glas allt mor with the intention of bagging something given the effort to get that far. It took hours to break trail through the snow and Heather to the top of beinn bhreac but it was worth it. Stunning views, and a sunset on the way down out weighed the effort required to get it. Crampons not required so yep, they just came for a walk.
Picked kit back up from Bob Scott`s and walked out.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
