Description

We ascended ben more via the NW spur, which had localised considerable hazard on the forecast. On scene this presented itself as the wind scoured ridge. Terrain frozen at glen level, but snow from about 600m onwards. Breakable crust at first, with localised small areas of windslab wich broke under foot. From 900m, hard rime ice all the way to the summit. on the descent to the bealach we opted for crampons due to sheet ice everywhere. Low vis from about 800m on stob binnein, until we returned to the northern bealach and descended back to the glen by following snowy gullies to the west.

Area : Loch Lomond to Strathyre (Ben More)

Ben Lomond (974m) and Ben More (1174m) sit on opposite sides of this area which stretches from Loch Lomond to the western end of Loch Earn. There are two distinct sections, to the north and south of Glen Voil, with the remaining peaks sitting to the south of Loch Katrine. Access to the majority of the hills in this area is commonly from Crianlarich, Aberfoyle or Callander.
