Description

Day 2 with JSMTC group, navigation refresher into Coire an Lochain, Spot 1083, Cairn Lochan, Stob Coire an t-Sneachda, Spot 1041, Fiacaill Choire Chais and back to Ski Center.
Near white out conditions from 1083 until below 1041 made for challenging navigation legs set away from the Coire edges. Weather was worse than forecast and going underfoot slow due to deep unconsolidated snow.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
