Description

My parents asked me to take them up Scafell Pike as they didn't want to tackle this themselves. After looking at the numerous routes that you could take, we decided that the Rossett Gill path was the best option. This is the longest path in terms of distance but is the most gentle. My parents were 65 and 61 at this time and both rely heavily on walking poles and my mum has issues with the feet (bunions) so I wanted as gentle a climb as possible. It was a great day for walking and both my parents made it to the top and were well pleased with themselves! We returned by the same route which took a long time but they enjoyed it.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
