Description

Two day walk with girlfriend over some of the more remote parts of the white peak. Left the car in Combs and then south out the village following minor roads and footpaths to Errwood reservoir climbed hill to Pym Chair and then headed south to Cats Tor and Shining Tor. Passed the Cat and Fiddle pub and followed footpaths and track along Cumberland Brook. Climbed Shutlingsloe and descended by same path to pick up track over the moor towards Gradbach YHA where we stayed the night.
Day 2, left Gradbach and climbed to the Roaches via Lud's Church which is a very cool cave. From Roaches we followed road north to Flash village and up to Axe Edge and Axe Edge Moor. Continued north to burbage edge and then along a dismantled railway before climbing up to Combs Moss and the trig point at Black Edge. Descended via old hill fort to the car.
This was a route we first saw in Trail magazine, interesting to note that not all of their descriptions are 100% as the second over Combs Moss took some finding. Made worse by the rain that had started by this point.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
