Description

Galway Community Cooperative Climbing Wall. After seeing this wall was near where I was going on holiday I got in touch with the wall president to ask if i could have a session there and they kindly agreed. A fantastic initiative for a number of local climbers desperate for a wall as all members jointly own the wall with their membership. Its open 24/7 and is completely non-for-profit, all funds get rolled back in to buy things for the wall such as mats, holds, new areas of wall, training boards and even trips.
I got there and was greeted by Padhraic and some other members of the wall who I quizzed about how they run it and the general day to day advantages and difficulties of the wall as they were washing holds ready for resetting by non other than Ricky Bell. They told me how they do it and how it all came together in the first place. They also told me they run a voluntary kids club which is amazing!!
The setting was ace as well, some minor mistakes here and there such as holds that hadn't been taken off the wall and were simply attached by being stuck to the paint but aside from that it was ace. I've seen worse commercial walls....
