An easy route along paths and tracks, but still some care in navigation was required in Holme Wood to ensure I wouldn’t miss the turning I needed. Starting from the small car parking area by the phone box at NY121224 I headed through fields, being careful not to frighten the sheep, to Hudson Place, where I followed the track SE to enter Holme Wood. I continued through the woodland and followed the easy route by the shore to Maggie’s Bridge. I headed SW through High Nook Farm, where I was accosted by the farmer’s dog. After a friendly chat with the farmer I headed off up the hill on the stony track, which changed to boggier ground and a more indistinct path at NY125201, where I crossed the river with care and headed up beneath Carling Knott and along the bridleway towards Holme Wood. After admiring the impressive view to the coast, I turned right at a kissing gate leading into Holme Wood. At NY 123212. I turned left and followed the woodland track past Holme Force waterfall and down the hill to rejoin the lakeside path. I returned to the car via the fields I had passed through earlier.
